            Down Syndrome has been a public health problem in the country for along time, and has been solved at a global and national level by identifying risk groups in pregnant women and couples. Therefore,cnc will introduce you to know about down syndrome and what kind of problem it is. Down syndrome is a genetic disorder in which an extra copy of chromosome 21 is present, causing the most common form of mental retardation in the world. It can occur in people of all races, religions, languages, and social classes.Babies with Down syndrome are born with multiple physical abnormalities and intellectual disabilities. In addition to being the most common cause of intellectual disability, about 40-50 percent of people with Down syndrome have congenital heart defects, about 30 percent have thyroid problems, and about 5-12 percent have gastrointestinal problems.

Factors indicating increased risk

• Family history of genetic diseases
• History of repeated miscarriages
• History of childbirth with chromosomal abnormalities (Trisomy 13,18)
• History of childbirth with Down syndrome
• History of childbirth with non-closed neurosis
• History of diabetes
• History of pregnancy from artificial insemination
• Smoking history

            he incidence of Down syndrome in Thailand is between 1:800 and 1:1000 live births (Health Center 7, Khon Kaen, Department of Health, 2019). In addition to being a public health problem, it also causes economic and social impacts on the country.
